"On a personal level, Freaking Out is a process whereby an individual casts off outmoded and restricting standards of thinking, dress and social etiquette in order to express CREATIVELY his relationship to his immediate environment and the social structure as a whole. Less perceptive individuals have referred to us who have chosen this way of thinking and FEELING as "Freaks", hence the term "Freaking Out".

When I was fourteen years old I first heard ‘Freak Out’, of The Mothers of Invention. It simply blew me away... Was it art,...punk,...a joke? A mix of some quite orthodox sounding tunes (but with some off- key backing vocals and weard sounding guitars). And some ‘totally freaking out’ tracks (“Who are the brainpolice”, “Help I’m a rock”, “The return of the son of Monster Magnet”). I didn’t play the album for over ten years, but last week I ‘rediscovered’ it. My favorites are the opening track “Hungry Freaks, Daddy” and the somewhat bluesy “Trouble Everyday Day” (the latter returning eight years later in another – and maybe even better - version on the album “Live at the Roxy”). Zappa’s not that often in my ceedee-player, I just can’t listen to the ‘slick’ 80’s stuff anymore. But I can’t help it, I am a fan... Check out: Feak Out!
