situations

Due to tragic circumstances our recording dates got cancelled last weekend. Sometimes there are more important thing in life than music...

back to mine (8)

ying yang

Last Saturday saw Boyke, Ted and me going through some bits and pieces in the Spider James catalogue. A fifty second Big Beat reprise of ‘Kinky II’. The opening chords for what should have become ‘Try a little breathing’. As Boyke worked his way through the chords of the latter, we ended up reviving the actual song. Much to our own surprise, we really liked the result. If the upbeat kraut funk of ‘King James’ represents the outgoing side of our music, than ‘Try a little…’ is the perfect example of how intimate and fragile our music can be. It reminded me of ‘Morninghead’, but it’s much more playful, almost funky. Could be we give it a go and throw it on tape this Friday or Saturday. After recording a very energetic ‘King James’. Of course.

tiny reminder

watch the tapes

This night one time Spider James member Christian Toonk, and Wouter van Veldhoven (yes, brother of) will perform their music at the Cul-de-Sac in beautiful Tilburg. For more information: visit this page. At the end of the evening everyone will know what ‘circuitbending’ means

in between days

colour me in

Next Thursday we’ll hit The Void again. We won’t dissappoint Pidah: two months of weekly rehearsing paid off, and now the new King James sounds as solid as a rock. Besides King James (revisited) we hope to record a new version of Kam. If we still have some time left, we might also try some ‘sketches’ and 'colouring in' On A Breeze, Morninghead and Umbrella.. It’s only a wishlist, and two days of studiotime isn’t that much....

new and improved

the gunpowder plot

Well, saturday saw the full band together for the first time in six weeks. So we finally got to put all the parts of the new King James together. But the hard work, the talking an the gallons of coffee of the last weeks paid off. We think it sounds great. New and improved. Three chords, a steady beat, a double guitar solo and six guys screaming the same silly line over and over and over again. Isn't that what rockmusic is all about? Well, sometimes it is.
